Today around 10 AM I met with Andy Divall at his site for the proposed waste transfer facility. He walked me around the property and told me more about his plans.
I shared with him some of the feedback I got from residents I spoke to after the presentation on Monday the 18th in the Council hall. I told him that the residents and neighbors were still not satisfied that their concerns were being addressed adequately. I suggested he meet again with a few of the residents to listen to them face to face on a more personal level. He seemed quite willing to do so.
I asked him how he felt about the idea of a land swap and he said it might be okay, so this is something to discuss more with him.
After seeing the site myself I felt less concerned about the flood issue since his building would be around the same level as the existing train tracks and I assume they have been designed to be above any expected floods.
If I recall correctly he said that the building will be on two levels. The lower of those will be just 1.5 meters below the existing rail line.
He also seemed sincere about making the site look good from the outside.
We didn't discuss other issues such as noise levels and truck traffic. We only briefly disccussed the issue of using the train line. I'd like to discuss that more with him since several of us were not clear about that after the Monday night presentation.
He seemed understanding when I brought up the fact that the neighbors didn't feel sufficiently informed and heard.
Overall, I felt encouraged by our meeting. I also felt a high degree of trust in what he told me. He seemed quite sincere. Still, there are many issues which concern me and others that I believe need to be more fully addressed.
I personally like the idea of a land swap so the river location might be used as part what could be a really great park on both sides of the river. I will write a little about this in a new post.
