One thing which has become clear by this point is that the planners, consultants and experts (not to mention Council) failed to talk to the residents.
Here are two examples:
1. Noise. The residents of Grafton St know that you can hear the beep beep beep of the back up alarms from the Council depot all the way over to their homes. Had the experts actually talked to the residents and listened to their concerns, they could have easily learned this, without needing any expensive equipment or fancy words and terms.
In fact, even with their expensive equipment, and supposed expertise, which I'm sure Andy Divall paid a high price for, they seemed to have left out the issue of this very annoying noise pollution altogether in their report.
2. Odour. The consultants who did the odour studies also failed to talk to the local residents. Had they done so, they would have quickly found out, for example, that on certain summer nights the smells from the sewage works travel more than 1 km.
In his submission, John Sutton, long-time Goulburn resident, quotes from the air quality impact assessment.
"For the purposes of this assessment, it is assumed that no odour emission will escape through the open roller door."
John strongly disagrees and he suggests:
"The person responsible for this statement should be chained to a post at the roller door opening for 12 months, and then asked if their statement is correct."
